Update on the Proposed Troy-Birmingham Transit Center

December 9, 2009
by Dave Lambert

According to “tweets” from 15MileTransit and Troy Chamber CEO Michele Hodges, Congressman Gary Peters announced today that Congress will soon vote on $1.3 million for the Troy/Birmingham Multi-modal Transit Center.

A Transit center may have some long-term benefits in the right circumstances (e.g., a cost-effective high-speed rail link between Detroit and Chicago). However, this federal funding will also require the City of Troy to make additional expenditures on the Transit Center. How can the City make this kind of investment when it’s laying off staff and threatening to close the Library?
