DAILY MEDIA CRIME SHEET
March 27, 2008

These summaries are meant to provide general highlights of items of interest and do not necessarily reflect every incident responded to. Investigations of a nature or at a juncture where publicity may impair the outcome of a case are not generally listed.

Altercations/Disorderly Conduct:

Bailey’s Pub, 1950 W. Maple, 3/26, 0120 hrs.
A 25 year old female from Rochester Hills stated she got into an argument with a female acquaintance after she accused the subject of harassing a friend via text messages.  Angered, the subject invited complainant outside so she could beat her up.  Complainant stated she followed the woman into the parking lot where the subject promptly punched her in the nose, bloodying it.  The suspect got into a vehicle and left.  Complainant believes the suspect is a 19 year old female possibly from Roseville.  No medical attention required.  08-10672

Two counterfeit VISA/American Express traveler’s checks totaling $1000.00 were returned from their bank.  08-10592

Macy’s, Somerset, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 3/11, 1517 hrs.
LPO came to the station to report that several pair of shoes totaling $1370.00 had been purchased via phone and were picked up on 3/10.  The next day three males returned three pair of those shoes for a refund which was placed on a gift card for $779.10.  Later investigation revealed the true holder of the credit account number used was deceased.  08-10496

Suburban Cadillac, 1810 Maplelawn, 11/30/07
Complainant reported the dealership was contacted by a detective from a PD in Illinois investigating a fraudulent loan taken out in the name of a 47 year old male from his jurisdiction for a $23,000.00 vehicle purchase at the dealership.  The sale was for a ’05 Pontiac G6.  Records indicated a male and female made the purchase.  The male apparently provided an Ohio ID card in the name of the complainant from Illinois.  The female presented a Michigan ID card in the name of a 20 year old female from Detroit.  The employee who oversaw the sale no longer works at the dealership.

LaSalle Bank, 150 E. Maple, 1/18
Complainant came to the station to report an individual identifying himself as a 44 year old male from Birmingham opened an account in December.  He deposited a check for $1000.00 made out to himself into his account in Troy on 1/18.  The check was later returned by the issuing bank as not from a valid account.  Withdrawals had apparently been made against the deposit. Contact attempts with the subject in an attempt to make the check good have not been responded to.  Complainant reported the same subject is suspected of similar frauds at branches in other cities for as much as $5000.00 in total.  08-10468

Complainant reported she suspects her 18 year old son of stealing, forging, and cashing two of her personal checks for a total of $1600.00.  It appears his 18 year old female associate from Southfield may have assisted in cashing them at a bank where she has an account, as her name also appears on the memo line; the male does not have a bank account.  08-10464

Domestics/Family Troubles:

Troy Officers responded to one incident involving a family trouble/domestic dispute where investigation revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal enforcement action was taken.

Macy’s, Somerset, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 3/12, 1019-1227 hrs.
LPO came to the station to initiate an embezzlement complaint against a 21 year old male cashier from Kalamazoo who rang up two fraudulent returns totaling approximately $70.00 and placed the amounts onto a gift card he had in his possession.  08-10497

Larcenies from Autos:

Coachman, 3/26, 0213 hrs.
Complainant observed three males near his Pontiac Grand AM in the apartment complex lot.  He called police and made his presence known to the subjects.  Two ran to a black mid sized SUV which fled the area.  The third was last seen running south on foot.  The area was checked with negative results for the vehicle and subject out on foot.   A hydraulic jack was left under the complainant’s car and the car was partially jacked up.  The suspects partially cut the exhaust pipe in an attempt to remove the catalytic converter.  08-10675

Malicious Destruction of Property: 

Kinder Care, 37373 Dequindre, 3/22-3/25
Complainant reported they are in the process of leasing the building.  Someone gained entry via a window and damaged the interior with paint.  The exterior walls and privacy fence were also damaged with paint.  08-10597

Baker School, 1291 Torpey, 3/24-3/25, 1600-1054 hrs.
North side exterior wall of old section of the building had “HERO” and some initials spray painted on it.  08-10582

Saf Ti Glass, 449 Executive, 3/25, 2240 hrs.
Officer on patrol observed a red ’91 Dodge Dakota P/U cruising through the industrial subdivision.  It eventually pulled behind the listed closed business and two male subjects got out and approached the rear of the building. When they returned to the truck and it pulled away, the officer stopped it.  The 18 year old male driver and his 16 year old male passenger, both from Hazel Park, claimed they were looking at the building because it was for sale.  Officers checking it discovered nothing missing/disturbed, but suspected the pair were metal scrappers.  They were warned and released.  08-10663

Greenwich, 3/24, 2100 hrs.
Complainant reported a w/m knocked on the front door and asked for her husband.  She told him he was not home.  The subject claimed he had flowers for him; when complainant responded she was calling police, he left.  An hour later complainant stated a different w/m wearing a black button shirt, black ball cap, bald with a goatee showed up at her door, again claiming he was there to see her husband.  She stated the subject said he was an officer and put something shiny up to the window.  She told the subject to stay at the door while she called police.  He reportedly responded that was ok and left.  Complainant suspects harassment is related to a civil matter her husband is involved with.  08-10560

Woodman and Beach, 3/24, 1630 hrs.
A 56 year old male complainant from Troy reported being bitten by a Dachshund as he was jogging.  The responding officer located the owner who confirmed the dog was up to date on its shots.  Unknown on prosecution as of this writing.  08-10637
