Crash Investigations:
N/B I-75 south of Wattles, 2/29, 0330 hrs.
Officers responded to a report of a crash involving a ’98 Olds Intrigue. The incident was called in by a passerby. Investigation revealed the 23 year old male driver/lone occupant from Shelby Township was northbound in the far left lane when he veered off the roadway and struck the center median guardrail. The vehicle rolled after striking the guardrail and the driver was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead on the scene. It appears he was not wearing a seatbelt. The left and center northbound lanes were closed as was the left southbound lane while crash investigators processed the scene. At this point, alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The road was clear; weather was not a factor. The investigation revealed the driver just completed a 12 hour shift at 0300 hrs. at his employer which is in Detroit and was apparently on his way home. It is suspected he may have fallen asleep and drifted off the roadway. It appears no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Anyone that may have witnessed the crash itself or might have additional information is asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477. 08-7554
Coolidge and Leeland, 2/26, 0905 hrs.
Officers responded to a report of an injury crash where a Chrysler mini van collided with the rear of a City of Troy snow plow. Investigation revealed the truck was stopped in the southbound lanes of Coolidge assisting another motorist that was stuck in a snow bank. The emergency lights and flashers were activated on the plow. The roads were icy and snow covered. The 38 year old female from Troy driving the mini van attempted to make a lane change to go around the truck, lost control, and slid sideways into the rear corner of the truck. The rear passenger side window of the van was punctured by the corner of the truck injuring the driver’s four year old son who was secured in a car seat in the rear passenger side of the van. The four year old was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where he was listed in serious, but non-life threatening condition. The driver was seat belted and not injured. The southbound lanes of Coolidge were closed for about a half an hour during the investigation. 08-7208
Credit, Check, Identity Theft, and other Fraud:
Home daycare operator reported she placed an ad for openings on the Craig’s List web site. She received an e-mail from a subject claiming to be from England who was being transferred to Detroit in the near future and in need of daycare. Additional e-mails from the subject indicated she was given a moving expense check. She advised the complainant she was going to send her the moving expense check and she should deposit the check into her own account and wire her back the cash in excess of the day care costs. When the check arrived via UPS, complainant opened it and suspected it was fraudulent, so did not complete the transaction as instructed; no losses. 08-7422

The vehicle turned east on 14 Mile and attempted to enter the entrance ramp for N/B I-75 where officers stopped it. The 53 year old male from Hartland claimed he wasn’t aware he had been going the wrong way on the divided highway. He stated he had three beers at a restaurant and was heading home. He smelled strongly of intoxicants, failed sobriety tests, and was arrested. He blew .13 on a breath test. 08-7542
Larcenies:
Office, 888 W. Big Beaver, 2/14, 0800-1000 hrs.

Round Tree, 2/27, 1200-1500 hrs.
A 29 year old female from Troy indicated she was in the process of moving out with the assistance of a 40 year old male friend from Detroit. They apparently loaded up items from the residence into a rented truck and then left to run errands. When they returned, the rented truck was gone as were numerous items that were still inside the residence. A witness stated after they left, several males showed up, entered the residence, loaded up the items, and then left. Complainant claims her “friend” proceeded to tell her he thought he knew who took the property and that he needed some money to get it back. She gave him $400.00 and he left. He returned claiming he saw some of the “stuff” at a couple of houses off of Seven Mile in Detroit. He was gone when officers took the report. Officers were called back on 2/28 over a dispute between the two about the missing furniture. He told officers he had no knowledge of the missing property and alleged the complainant was taking narcotics causing her to be irrational. He proceeded to turn over a pipe fashioned to consume narcotics he claimed he took from her. She denied knowledge of the pipe. He had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction and was arrested. 08-7485 and 7415
